COMMUNITY CONCERN

Our group formed in February 2007 in response to growing concerns about the problems facing this area.
We are not political, just residents who want to protect and improve what we have.
We are self funded and have over 200 members.
We believe that this is a special town with a real community spirit but believe that it is threatened by neglect and unrestrained development...
There has been considerable growth in the population in the last few years but no investment in the infrastructure. This has led to traffic congestion and a shortage of parking spaces. More and more cars are parked in residential areas.
The problems will get worse as there is no local plan and this allows developers to make proposals for continued development.
We are trying to get a one-way system on Market Street and a long stay car park on the outskirts of town together with schemes to protect residential areas.
Last year we presented 1600 petition signatures and over 60 letters from town centre businesses to the County and Borough Councils and are continuing to press our MP for improvements.
We also want to preserve what we have - our Market Square which is the heart of the town and our heritage; our health and leisure centres. These are some of the cornerstones of the town and need to be protected.
We are actively involved with the Primary Care Trust in the scheme to get a new health centre built by January 2011.
We also support and help the campaign to stop the Ecotown.
