where does our council tax go?
| Posted by skippy - 20:53 - 17th February 2011 |
Each year Bingham town council is funded from our council tax, The town council control how this money is spent, One of the projects funded by the council (or us residents ) is Butt field. Over the past few years a lot of money seems to have been spent here, it seems a large amount of that is directly to the football clubs. The field is not a right of way, I have no right to walk across it as it is there for the use of the football clubs. When i questioned the money 'we' spent on these facilities just so the football club can leave the furnature outside until it is ruined etc etc, I was told by the clerk, Well its not my money i dont live in Bingham. COMMENTS PLEASE........... |

I believe over of £100K has been spent on Butt field. This money was part of £1M given to Bingham for the community chest, for the benefit of everybody, by the developers of the new housing estate at the top of Tithby road. The money spent on Butt field was decided by the town council without any consultation with the people of Bingham. I believe that any future expenditure from this fund should be fully consulted otherwise not enough will be left for a new community centre that we desparately need and which would benefit everybody not just a few football players. I can understand why the field has been fenced off because of irresponsible dog owners not clearing up after their pets. It is not nice for young people to be covered in dog excrement while playing sport. |

I agree with MOST of what you have said, the 1 thing i would like to say is the dog mess is not all down to owners, the local businesses that do dog walking seem to me to be wore at not cleaning up than the owners them selves |

From reading previous posts; where we must praise Bingham Town Council is they have listened with regards to slowing motorists down on Grantham Road, now there are traffic lights which make it safe for school children. |

I believe those lights were provided by county council and not town council - I am in favour of them but credit where credit is due. As far as the town council is councerned can anybody list results of actions from town council that actually bebefit the majority ot Bingham residents? |

Pam and Bigead are both correct. It was local Councillors, including Town Councillors, together with Parents from the Birds estate and Teachers at Carnarvon Primary School, who campaigned and put pressure on Notts County Council (the responsible Authority,) to install the lights and crossing on Grantham Road. On other matters. the Town Council provides a range of important and valuable services for less than £76 per year or £1.50 per week (based on a Band D property,) The responsibilities may not be vey exciting and the resources are extremely modest in comparison to larger senior Authorities. However, the professional staff and volunteer elected Town Councillors work hard on behalf of the Town and, I believe, really do make a difference to enhance the quality of life for Bingham residents overall. Thank you for your reply FP-H. Several shops have closed in the precinct adding to the existing eyesore. Is there nothing to be done about this? I know that the precinct is privately owned but surely we could hear more from the town council voicing concerns publicly and raising awareness and maybe persuading the owners to do something about it. Do you think these closures have anything to do with Tesco planning apllication that I believe you voted against? |

It seems the crown estates and council's only want houses , when what people want is a really good store like Tesco, or Morrison's etc, as well as encouraging job's theres enough houses allready , How many were demolished at Newton, how many shops stand empty, Look after Bingham and forget Newtown |
