Tesco in bingham?????

what do people think of this proposal?

My thoughts are no way. I really dont care what they say it will mean more cars, Even more busses, they say they will improve the rail crossing that wont make a difference as there will be just as many stops for just as many trains.

the end of local businesses as we know them think about the items our retailers currently sell and most of them can be bought from Tesco our town centre will be boarded up and deserted like the old supermarket in Eaton place. (that closed supermarket proves we cant support another without people driving in from everywhere)

cars rushing in at all times of the day and night how often are you in a trafic queue in bingham? this is bound to get a lot lot worse.

Will our market survive?

I have lived in bingham some years now and the lack of the supermarket was one of the big draws to the area for me.

I agree, NO TO TESCO!! We have Sainsburys Local and the Co-op and not having a big supermarket is a benefit as far as I am concerned.

Also, just when it looks like the traffic on Fairfield and Kirkhill will be reduced by the dualling of the A46 (well I can be optimistic) all of Bingham will be driving past to go shopping. No way I can agree to this.

Is it supposed to be a big tesco or just a small one like sainsburys local? and also where is it going to be, I'm told chapel lane but i'm not sure where that is!!!!

I apologise in advance if i upset others with my views.... If it is a big supermarket for the proposal of Tesco`s then i would be pleased, it would create more jobs for us locally, plus we would get our shopping under one roof.

They obviously would build a car park for it so parking would not be an issue like most think. When granting planning permission the council would need to take parking into account. Wouldn`t they???

If we get a Tesco then it would be the best thing to happen to Bingham, the bigger the better, every one should be able to take advantage of what they could offer, maybe not just food stuffs but other goods aswell. Tesco's is badly needed. The shopping in Bingham has not changed in 40 years, So far Bingham is just a houseing estate, Let,s move with the time..

Like several other replies, I'm very much in favour of a decent-sized, modern store in a location near the edge of the town. When you think about it, the nearest larger stores for Bingham and the surrounding villages are in places like West Bridgford, Newark or Grantham. Many people from these local communities would undoubtedly come and shop here and some, at least, are likely to come into Bingham itself to do other shopping. I know for a fact, having lived in Bingham for well over 30 years, that I'm one of a great many Bingham residents who has routinely travelled out to one of the larger stores in the Nottingham area to do my main shopping. So, if I were to use the new Tesco, local businesses certainly wouldn't actually be losing out at all. Having said that, I do agree that it would be a fantastic opportunity to incorporate any new store development into a wider and more imaginative planning update for Bingham that should include a one-way system in the Market Square, better parking in Bingham itself, a new Heath Centre, a new Community Centre, etc. It's high time that a place the size that Bingham has now become got some proper high quality attention from the planners. Time, in fact, for some heads to be well and truly knocked together! The Rushcliffe boundaries do extend beyond West Bridgford!

Yes, Tescos will bring some jobs. But it is more than likely that Sainsbury's local and the co-op will close, not to mention the other shops in town. People will not shop in town and at Tesco.

It will bring more traffic to an already congested area of Bingham, we will have more jams when the level crossing is closed, and more traffic from other villages will come through Bingham, causing more problems than we already have.

many people like myself and all my family do our main shopping out side of bingham, I'm sure many more do just the same, why because it's a lot cheaper and more variety, i'm sure the coop and sainsburys will manage, it's called competition, bring it on.

I couldn't agree more with you, Taff. The proposed location of the new store, being on the very edge of the town, would mean that there shouldn't be additional traffic in Bingham town centre from people simply travelling to it. As I said before, I actually think it could also bring additional trade to many other existing Bingham shops, too. Once the new A46 has been completed I would imagine that, for most out-of-town visitors to the store, it would definitley be most convenient for the majority to approach the store from the north end of the town (Margidunum roundabout), and this wouldn't impact on traffic over the level crossing.

im not decided yet if i agree with the idea, i guess it depends on size, location of access points and time expected for construction

I shop in Bingham centre currently and id still continue to shop at the health shops and the market for fruit and veg but it would be nice to have the option to buy more of our other foods from Bingham as the sainsburys and co-op mainly stock one brand of each item, not necessarily my brand of choice!

How many people would continue to use the maket though? Even though its produce is cheaper and more fresh than supermarkets i expect many people see it as 'easier' to get from a supermarket

Tesco will get permission for the store. It may be cleverly linked to a limited extension of Bingham up to the A46, as the proposed Eco town looks to have been stopped and they would have settled for a site across the A46. They have already bought up the site from the current owners. The improvement to the railway crossing is the pedestrian route and it will have improved "visual connectivity" which presumably means the new store can be seen from the footway. They are aware of the road crossing problems, around 6 minutes closed at the worst times and have approached Network Rail. It remains to be seen if they have more clout than local organisations in trying to cut the delays.
The building of the store is a foregone conclusion. A far more important Community issue is the ludicrous deciscion by the PCT to site the new Health Centre on Mill Hill the highest and most southerly point in Bingham with no existing regular bus routes when a perfectly good community site exist at Warners Paddock.

I am in favour for a Tesco store in Bingham for several reasons. As a disabled person who needs to use an electric scooter I find that trying to get a parking spot in the car parks is generally very difficult. Even if I can park the pavements around the shops outside Birds and Sainsbury slope very badly - I feel that I will topple over. These pavements were improved some time ago but are still not very good. I suggest that local councillors try to use a scooter to see what I mean. The dropped kerbs are very often blocked by illegal parking. Access to Birds is impossible for wheelchairs. If I have to go to different shops crossing the road is problematical what with lorries and cars parking and buses struggling to get through the congestion. So I have to go out of town to Gamston or West Bridgeford to shop in supermarkets which are disabled friendly and have everything I need under one roof and of course provide ample parking facilities. I bet the majority of shoppers, even able bodied ones, go out of Bingham for their needs because prices are considerably lower. I believe that local producers and suppliers could get in touch with Tesco's and see if they could supply their produce to them. As far as shops closing and getting boarded up don't we already have an eyesore in the closed Coop store. Maybe they will get their comeuppance for inflicting this monstrosity upon us. You wait until the health centre moves for another ugly boarded building to be there for all to see. Is there some plan by the council to deal with the problem of Eaton Place?
I do agree with PC49 about the siting of the health centre up a hill - absolutey stupid, I can't think of anything more ludicrous.

Yes, I am also fully in favour of the new Tesco, we often travel to West Bridgford or Newark to do the main shopping as at present things are very limited in bingham, Tesco also sell things like clothes !! when was the last time anybody bought clothes in Bingham ??? ( I remember Doncasters)
Yes i am a resident of some 40 plus years and bingham needs this,

talk about spreading it about, health centre at one end of Bingham super store at the other, now what can go east an west, some planners we've got,

Just a thought.... Im sure ive read somewhere that tescos are linked to the eco town proposals..... can anyone confirm this?

i cant believe that people cant accept the decision about the doctors and let it drop. this thread is nothing to do with the doctors.

all the people in support of tesco have you really thought this through? the supermarket that is taking over the country! we will loose our local shops and we will have more boarded up retail outlets. to me one of the big attractions of bingham is the lack of this type of supermarket, our shops will suffer our market will suffer our roads will be crowded the rail crossing will only improve for pedestrians. what we know as bingham will go.

Please go and look at places like heanor and gainsborough who welcomed tesco the town is ruined. life revolves around tesco

if you really want to live on the doorstep of a supermarket then please tell me why did you ever move to bingham????

I fully agree Skippy, Bingham does not need Tescos. I shop on-line most of the time, so do not have to go further than my front door. Just occasionally I will go further afield, but that is a benefit of living in a small town; if I had wanted to live close to a big supermarket I would have bought a house in West Bridgeford or Newark.

The proposed site for Tescos will bring a massive increase in traffic along Fairfield and Kirkhill as everyone who lives in Bingham will use this road to get there and we already have many jams, not only when the level crossing is down, and many accidents escecially at busy times.

Tescos will lead to the closure of town centre businesses and many job losses.

I worry that I have become a NIMBY, but I would like to see Bingham develop, with the buildings around the market place and in the arcade being used, a new health centre (I don't really care where, sorry!) and maybe some wind turbines and pockets of new houses and new industry next to the current industrial estate. Just not a Tescos!

Ok ayo, so you shop on line, spending your hard earned moneyout side of the town all together er is it Tesco on line , many people still choose not to own a pc, or just dont want to shop on line, you want houses built and a little industry, what industry there is dosen't pay good wages, theres allready enough houses, or mabe your an estate agents, plenty of those as well, most of us do care where the health centre is built, think what it's for, the old and the sick maybe ,,

I do shop on-line, in the same way as I go into the City to shop, I chose to live in a small town so that is inevitable, however, I do use the local shops and services on a regular basis. I would like to see all the shops/buildings in the centre of Bingham in use and would like to see industrial development alongside the new housing, and therefore more local jobs, I do not want a Tescos in Bingham as I believe it will lead to job losses and enormous traffic problems over the level crossing.

It look's like we will be getting a new Tesco's after all, that's really great news, It's much needed.

Unless you happen to live on Fairfield Street and Kirkhill, we wont be able to move for the traffic, its bad enough now at some times of the day. I have seen 3 cats, a dog, and a child runover, and several car accidents on this stretch of road, the traffic to Tescos will make it worse.

Why can't they build it at Newton where there is lots of space and much better access.

I love on Kirkhill and welcome the new 'Tesco's with open arms!!

I can't drive so a large superstore right on the doorstep is a great idea for me. Co-op and Sainsbury's are only small so they have limited stock of things, which are freely avaliable at a large store.

The plans have gone in, but RBC are waiting on Network Rail as to what happens next.

Still no news from network rail, will they really agree to this, I sincerely hope not! The traffic continues to be a major problem and will only get worse with a large supermarket just across the railway line.

As I asked before, why can't Tescos build a big store at Newton?

I do not think they would allow Tesco`s to be built at Newton due to the traffic problem on the A46. I feel where ever they put the new Tesco`s; it is a situation that is not going to please all.

well the a46 is being dealt with isnt it? so once thats done newton would be far more suitable than bingham

i really dont want a tesco in bingham we really dont need it. I am vegan and I eat very well buying locally so I cant see that omnivored which most of the population are can find it any harder!

Mrs s you say (quote)I really don't need a tesco in bingham, we really don't need it. unquote. bit of a selfish way to say non of us should want it. from speaking to other folk it most certainly is wanted, but we will have to wait and see.

i said we dont need it not that nobody should want it
