parking in bingham

i understand that rushcliffe intend to make our public car parks pay and display.

not only this but they intent stopping anything with over 3/4 ton payload from using them. people like myself need these vehicles for our livelyhoods. if we cant park in the car parks what do we do? block all the roads around the market place? like many other tradespeople i use local shops as much as possible

i have lived in bingham many years and can not believe this is what it is coming to.

yes there is a parking issue in bingham but many of these vehicles are cars not vans (van drivers normally park for 10 minutes or so just to pick up goods etc)and the drivers have driven to bingham to catch a bus into nottingham so why not have a park and ride outside bingham town centre this may also rid the town of some of the excessive number of busses we seem to have recently

i would love to hear your comments and if like me you feel these plans are senceless please write a letter to rushcliffe planning dept

On this I agree with you skippy the biggest problem is long stay parking. I don't think that parking levies should be charged but I do believe that parking should be limited to a max of 2 hours. This could easily be done by providing a m/c to issue tickets with a date and time stamp to be displayed on the windscreen and easily checked by parking wardens. I understand that a local group has been lobbying for a one way system in the centre of Bingham - this would certainly help the buses and reduce congestion. Also can anyone tell me why large lorries are allowed to park on double yellow lines on market day - the worst day of the week especially the wine delivery truck

I agree that long stay parking should be charged. I dont think anyone benefits from charging people for parking just to go to the market or whatever.

I personally dont drive and the frequency of the busses to nottingham is one of the things that attracted me to bingham. not everyone who gets the bus has just parked a car so the buses are spot of in my opinion!

I also think people should be encouraged to walk more. Its really not that difficult.....

hey bigead Glad to see we agree on something.

Mrs S
I dont have a problem with residents catching a bus near the town centre i do tho have a problem with all the busses we now seem to have around. i have counted upto 6 at a time in and around the centre of bingham. the out of town people who use these busses to commute to nottingham should park out of bingham. the crown are selling land just past the industrial estate cant that be a park and ride? cant we even have a footpath from there into bingham?

as for people walking more, i walk into bingham most evenings but when i am working i expect to be allowed to call for goods or even lunch in the town centre which means parking my van,

A big issue for me (and surely others as well) is how buses are now being parked up all day on the main road through Bingham (on Long Acre) - just at the point where the road narrows. There are often two buses parked nose to tail all day long, presumably school run buses that aren't needed during the day. They are a real pain, and a potential danger. The situation is obviously made evn worse when, as sometimes happens, yet another bus happens to stop at the same place in order to drop off passengers. From a safety point of view, the parking of buses all day long at this point should be banned; take the buses back to their proper bus park.

Yes!

The other day there was one parked at a part of the road where there wasnt enought for two lanes of traffic to pass, and i mean average sized cars not even the lorries!

And then there is pretty much always one parked by those apartments just over from the fire station! As if that road isnt congested enough as it is!

Am i right in thinking its the same company that provides the X1 service?

I'm really surprised that there haven't been more comments on this 'parking of buses all day long' issue. The problem seems just as bad as ever to me - and I happen to need to drive past them at least a couple of times every day. They really are a serious safety hazard and I would have thought that some action might have been taken by the authorities by now. And yes, I believe it is the same company who run the X1 service - they evidently have more buses than sense.

well the company is premiere then. i saw a big cement mixer scrape it the other day, and yes i did laugh

aparently the bus is parked on long acre by the fire station as a rest room for drivers! have you ever seen a driver sat in it? let alone sat there eating his lunch. Did everyone see a recent article stating that drivers are sick of getting parking tickets for parking on a double yellow line? it seems drivers park illegally so they can nip to the loo or fetch lunch, aparently bus drivers feel they should be allowed to do this, so why should they be allowed not everyone who is desperate for the loo or a sandwich. Keep booking them i say. and i always thought it was against the law to park in a bus stop (like the bus on long acre) can anyone confirm this?

that bus irritates me so much! the road is hard enough for a pedestrian to cross as it is! Ive heard a rumour that it is left there to spite the trent barton bus company which IMO is very childish and pathetic.

Thoughts for 2010.
(1) Bingham did not appear to come to a standstill when Church Street and Cherry Street were closed for re-surfacing and this can't have escaped the planners of any possible 1 way system, road closures or pedestrianisation for the future.
(2) The bus parked on Long Acre certainly slows down traffic which in turn allows pedestrians a better chance to cross the road ?

in my opinion what causes more of a problem is L R Mees van parking outside sainsburys, the driver leaves it there with the idiot lights flashing and if you ask him about it he says they have permission and not just for loading. the council put bollards up to stop mees parking on the pavement so now they cause all manner of problems illegally parking on a single yellow line. (note to moderator before you remove mees name from this dont forget you have left the names of the bus companys listed)

Some clarification about the white lines in the Market place from Notts County Council.
Thank you for your enquiry.
I can confirm that the white lines in Bingham on Market Street and Newgate Street are H bar markings; they are not legally enforceable and Nottinghamshire County Council does not pay for them.

Residents/businesses applying for a hbar pay for the cost of the marking themselves. Approval will always be at the Highway Authorities discretion and will be subject to conditions such as:
· There must be evidence that the occupier experiences access problems on a regular and severe basis, or the Highway Manager must agree that this is the case.

· If the occupant does not have a vehicle but requires the frequent service of an emergency vehicle ie Ambulance, then markings can be considered to accommodate the vehicle outside the property.

· If formal waiting restrictions already apply then these take precedence and a marking will not be provided.

· Markings are provided on the basis that they are not legally enforceable and therefore the Highway Authority will not get involved in any disputes following the introduction of a marking. The occupant must acknowledge in writing that they accept this to be the case.

· Where markings are provided they will be limited to one per household/ business access.

· Except for the purposes of access for emergency vehicles, markings will only be provided where there is a formal dropped crossing (ie. Lowered kerbs) with the marking being restricted to the width of the crossing.

I hope this answers your query
