Skippy is correct. The old Skateboard Park is situated on the former site of the Bingham Gasworks, between Butt Field and the Bridle path that leads from the Industrial Estate to the railway pedestrian crossing. The Skateboard Park suffered from occasional vandalism and a few years ago there was a major arson attack on the equipment. Following a complete inspection and advice, Bingham Town Council decided that it was uneconomical to repair and closed it. Later on, Rushcliffe Borough Council examined the site of the former gasworks for contamination and discovered that the Allotments and the Skateboard Park area was potentially unsafe to humans for recreation activities, ie, growing vegetables and children playing. As a precaution the decision was taken to close the Allotments and fence them off as well as the Skateboard Park area. Beyond this immediate area, going onto Butt Field there was also testing for contamination and it was confirmed there is virtually no risk of contamination beyond the actual former site of the Bingham Gasworks. |
